So our fearless leaders of the web development world:
Sitepoint
Are hosting a 2 week long stretch of HTML 5 tutorials for
Developers who are interested. The videos are about $14 to join. Still I haven’t seen much but its only been one day though.

Supposedly this HTML5 coupled with CSS3 is suppose to do some really neat things. In the first video they threw around a term called the “CANVAS ” Element. This Canvas element is suppose to allow you to be able to make changes to photos and draw on a web interface program that connects with your website. The Mechanics of that is unknown as of yet.

There are also suppose to be gradients, lights, text shadowing, less CASCADING in the cascading style sheet, Easier DOM (Document Object Manipulation) for JavaScript. I am kind of breezing through this because there were 3 vids that you actually probably find on YouTube that really didn’t give much information just an over view of what we will be covering.

However I am willing to run my mouth and share what I have learned with the development community—- for a small fee of course ;-) !!!!! Muhuhahahahahaha —- there goes that evil laughter again.

So I am greezing my palms and excited about the next few lessons perhaps I will get more substance information about the semantics and what not!!!

You can check out some examples of HTML5 usage on this site
http://html5gallery.com/
HTML5GALLERY.COM

With the exception of the Canvas tool… from the examples on the Gallery site I haven’t seen much of anything that JavaScript and JQuery hasn’t done already…but we shall see!!!

Till the next tutorial….Keep researching!!

I was thumbing through some material when I embarked on a “New Era” in design: “CSS3”. Now for many designers this is old news or fairly common news, but many designers bogged down by the demands of CSS2/ JavaScript/ My SQL and browser compatibility expectations across: Chrome, Safari, Mozilla, and IE don’t really have the time to delve into CSS3 and learn more.

Changes to the Box Model

Well this is a quick reference guide to give a little insight on the soon to be new platform in web design. One of the things that interests me most about the “CSS3” formatting is the amends that it has made for the Box Model! As many designers already know the box model is not perfect and it can get kind of cumbersome with the floats, padding, margins and resizing.

In CSS3 you can make use of column width and column gap. So you can quite easily size 3 different columns, decide the gap of space between them, the margins the padding and have them all under one tag. Take this paragraph mark up below.

P#cols

-moz-column-width: 13em;

-webkit-column-width: 13em;

-moz-column-gap: 1em;

-webkit-column-gap: 1em;

}

I know the mark up looks a bit foreign but there is a great tutorial on Webdesignermag.co.uk that can help you turn an ordinary web page into a sparkling CSS3 page.

Now the actual launch of full usage of CSS3 is currently still in its testing phasing and you can keep up with that by visiting this website down below:

CSS3.info

Browser support is limited to: Mozilla’s firefox and firefox Beta, Google Chrome and Apple’s Safari, mainly web-kit browsers support the new technology. Are you not surprised that Internet Explorer is not on this list?

So in total I want to give you a laundry list of wonderful new advancements to come from using CSS3: Box shadows, easier rounded boxes, multi color and image borders and much more!

In this post featuring several very talented web designers from DeviantArt. All of these inspiring website examples are fresh and new, for previous june month so you can see current web design interface trends. I must be honest I really love all of these sites, I like current trending and research made me want to get my hands dirty with some new design too. Carefully watch every detail – some designs are very simple, but white space is used very efficiently, creating outcome to look really professional. I enjoyed every pixel in these designs and hopefully this article and talented works will make you inspired too! more…

This is certainly not a blog about the ‘glass ceiling’ and how black women rarely get a fare shake in life. And we’re the victim waaa…waa..

No this is about fact over fiction.

This is about what I see with my own eyes.

Can I change the facts…or hang in their until I become undeniable.

Above it shows how Black Women report some of the highest statistics for Advanced education. This was from the US Labor Stats.

This is all fine, well and good but let’s get a little more microscopic and look at how Women in the IT field remain a disparity.

I read an article on Developer-world.com and the author remarked if you just take a quick scan in the office of any IT department you can see the scarcity of women in that field.

http://www.infoworld.com/d/developer-world/women-in-technology-call-action-919

The article goes on to present a slideshow presentation of women who have worked long term in the IT field and what roles they play.

http://www.infoworld.com/%5Bprimary-term-alias-prefix%5D/%5Bprimary-term%5D/why-are-women-exiting-it-careers-773

So I’m not making this up. You can find more stats for yourself.

Now that we have the “problem” what’s the solution?

Personally in many instances I have shielded or shortened my name on a resume for fear that the employer would find it to ethnic and overlook my credentials. I’m certain most employers know I am making purposely changing information to reflect no gender, no race.

I’m appearing to be like Drake mixed with Pat off of Saturday Night live…u don’t know what I am.

That’s just one of the few things that I have done.

Some other organizations have attempted too begin networks and bridges to bring together Black Women and Technology.

The NCWIT

http://www.ncwit.org/

“National Center for Women & Information Technology”

As a Jr. Developer and a graphic designer…I move really well from creativity to technical/ business but with no large company backing who is going to really see my work?

I’m certain that other black women in this field feel the same way.

This is an issue that I would like to address, there are a lot of untapped resources in Black women with a technical background that I think corporate America is really dropping the ball on.

This is totally my opinion based on stats, facts, observation and experience. If you can prove me wrong…please do.

If you have additional..information…please provide it.

This is simply a piece on how its difficult to break into the field as Black woman..there are so many things that happens when dealing with clientele, people’s level of trust etc…etc….

As always your girl has provided her latest compositions as a part of the slideshow.
I hope you enjoy

New Era and TBM

Today I joined a forum/blog and partnered up with “Thoughts of Black Man” . Honestly I feel its about time that Black men start to see themselves as leaders, fathers, role models other than rappers, pimps and prison inmates.

Its time to Grow!

Question is…can it be done? Are we as a community ready to stop allowing mis education, slavery, media manipulation to stop tearing apart our families and communities w/o letting passion, rage, or greed come between us?

What is certain is we must atone!

We have to accept, acknowledge the hurt and contract the highest source of them all to get this accomplished: Jesus Christ.

The Organization is based out of NYC
And its headed by a black man
I attended a conference call with a lot of insightful, passionate, driven black people.

Please visit the site for more information on the owner and the features of this organization.
